– RETAIL & E-COMMERCE CASE STUDY
From brand idea to launch-ready e-commerce website.
See how brand positioning, customer personas, e-commerce website development and commercial planning helped take a sustainable baby clothing idea through to launch.
– THE CHALLENGE
A premium product needed more than attractive presentation.
Nafi was being developed as a premium sustainable baby-textile brand rooted in natural fibres, traditional craftsmanship and regenerative values.
The website needed to communicate a distinctive story while also helping different types of buyer understand why the products were relevant to them.
– BRAND POSITIONING
Turning a complex set of values into a clear brand foundation.
The positioning work developed the origin story, mission, purpose, brand themes, core pillars, manifesto and external sustainability story before those ideas were translated into website content.
Origin story
Natural fibres, traditional craft, care and intergenerational value.
Purpose
A regenerative approach connecting beauty, ethics, people and planet.
Brand themes
Regeneration, craft, inclusion, tactile connection and systemic care.
Positioning framework
Bringing environmental activism, cultural awareness and systems thinking together.
External story
Clearer public-facing language for the website, packaging and launch activity.
Commercial relevance
Connecting the philosophy to products customers could understand and buy.
– PERSONA-LED WEBSITE STRATEGY
Three audiences with different motivations to purchase.
The website strategy recognised that a premium baby range would not be bought for one reason alone. Each audience needed a different emphasis, reassurance and route through the site.
PRIMARY BUYER
Parents
Focused on quality, safety, natural materials, values and products suitable for everyday family life.
FAMILY BUYER
Grandparents
Motivated by quality, longevity, tradition and choosing something meaningful for a new generation.
GIFT BUYER
The gifting aunt
Looking for a distinctive, premium present that feels thoughtful, beautiful and easy to choose.
– CUSTOMER JOURNEYS
Landing pages shaped around the buyer, not just the product.
Persona work informed the messaging, product context and calls to action used across the website. Each journey was designed to answer the questions most likely to matter to that buyer.
Recognise the buyer
Use language and priorities that make the visitor feel understood.
Explain the value
Connect premium pricing to materials, craftsmanship, values and longevity.
Simplify the choice
Use bundles and guided product presentation to reduce uncertainty.
Build confidence
Support the purchase with clear information, presentation and reassurance.
– E-COMMERCE WEBSITE BUILD
More than a brochure website.
Following the positioning work, the project developed into the design and build of a complete e-commerce website ready for launch.
Individual product pages
Dedicated pages were created for each item, with product descriptions, materials, care information and clear buying details.
Product categories
The range was organised into a clearer catalogue so visitors could browse by product type and need.
Bundle pages
Gift-ready bundles were developed to increase order value, simplify choice and make postage more commercially viable.
Inventory structure
Stock quantities, product descriptions, sizing, weights and identifiers were worked into the launch process.
Postage and packaging options
The project considered parcel sizes, shipping routes, presentation, sustainable materials and the cost of fulfilment.
Customer buying journeys
Navigation, product information and calls to action were shaped around different levels of buyer knowledge and intent.
– COMPANY ORIGINS & STORY
Extensive work on why the brand existed and what it stood for.
A significant part of the project involved developing the company story before translating it into website content.
This included the founder and origin story, mission, purpose, brand themes, values, sustainability principles, regenerative philosophy, natural materials, traditional craftsmanship and the longer-term vision for the business.
The aim was to create a story that felt distinctive and meaningful while still helping customers understand why the products were different and worth choosing.
– PRODUCT & COMMERCIAL PLANNING
The website work also exposed important operational dependencies.
As the range moved towards launch, the work extended well beyond page design into product descriptions, inventory, bundle configuration, competitor pricing, margin reviews, packaging, postage and fulfilment.
The project highlighted how strongly e-commerce website development depends on accurate product information, cost-led pricing, stock control, packaging decisions and fulfilment planning.
Product inventory
Consistent names, descriptions, dimensions, weights, stock and product identifiers.
Margin-first pricing
Understanding unit costs and margins before using competitor prices as a sense-check.
Bundle strategy
Creating gift-ready combinations to increase order value and make postage more viable.
Packaging
Balancing sustainable materials, premium presentation, dimensions and postal costs.
Fulfilment
Comparing outsourced fulfilment with flexible manual packing for a small launch.
Planning for scale
Identifying the systems that would need to develop if sales volume increased.
– WHAT THE PROJECT DEMONSTRATED
A strong website needs equally strong commercial foundations.
The positioning and persona work created a distinctive story and clearer routes for different customers. The launch process also showed that website optimisation cannot compensate for gaps in inventory data, pricing, forecasting or fulfilment.
That learning now informs how Next Level Web Growth approaches e-commerce and start-up projects: the website, offer and operating model need to be developed as connected parts of the same customer experience.
– THE OUTCOME
A market-ready brand and website, followed by a change in business direction.
Nafi launched with a distinctive brand story, clearer customer positioning and a complete e-commerce website with individual product pages, bundle pages, inventory information and defined postage and packaging options.
The business was operating with limited stock, funding and operational capacity and did not continue into a sustained growth phase. The website was later taken offline following a change of direction.
The website work was completed and launched. The project remains a useful example of persona-led website strategy and the importance of connecting brand, content, pricing, inventory and fulfilment before launch.
